Enriching Blacks with Kodak Premier

As a follow up to the observations made at the Mill Valley Film Festival, I advised my clients Rick Goldsmith and Judy Ehrlich to consider a different film stock for their 35mm release prints of The Most Dangerous Man in America. Their digital intermediate lab Alpha Cine in Seattle has not just the technical chops and consistency in quality control, their customer service is the best I’ve ever seen. So when I suggested a test on Kodak Premier release stock, Alpha Cine sent along a 200 foot demonstration of the superior color saturation and rich blacks. The filmmakers and I screened this stock and the earlier made Vision release prints at the Zaentz Media Center’s Alan Splet Theater. We were joined by others from the team at Colorflow, a new enterprise for color finishing in the reviving Berkeley center for independent filmmaking.
The results were stunning and I recommend other filmmakers going out to film to ask about Premier stock for their best screening presentation.
