Oscar for Cinematography needs bifurcation

Mauro Fiore won the Academy Award for Cinematography last night for work on Avatar and it has ruffled a few feathers among those who don’t think digital images count as photography. See the link above for a pretty good record for shooting reality on film.
But I have always thought the Directors of Photography at PIXAR deserve a nomination in this or another category. Maybe it’s time to recognize a new technical/artistic craft on the show along side the established mode: photochemical cinematography and digital cinematography.
